Bee Exhibit -Toledo Zoo
I designed a Drone Honey Bee, and the bee's Pupa and Larva stages.
The bees were 40 inches long. They were made for a the new exhibit,
Nature's Neighborhood, at the Toledo Zoo. The exhibit was designed
so children could move the bees in and out of the hive structure.
This project required a lot of research about the structure of a bee,
and an immense amount of planning. The materials were important,
to represent the different textures and nature of a bee's body and
wings, but also needed to be strong enough to withstand handling.
I used my sewing machine for most of the straight sewing work, but
much was completed by hand.
